Linda Engledow
BSc, GradDipEd (Curtin), CChem, MRACI
Cert IV AWT

Linda Engledow

Linda worked in the CMT industry as a Soils Laboratory Technician, providing technical support to classify soils for engineering purposes. Linda trained as an industrial chemist at the School of Chemistry, Curtin University. She continued at Curtin University for a further year, completing the Post-Graduate Degree in Education.

She was employed as a Lecturer with Central TAFE for 15 years where she was involved in the delivery and assessment of competencies from SciTech ACTRAC modules, then the Laboratory Operations Training Package PML99, and the current PMLO4. She developed an RPL strategy that provided a pathway for experienced laboratory staff to access qualifications. Most notably, she developed an auditable training delivery and assessment strategy whilst leading and coordinating a lecturing team of 20 staff, 7 support staff and 300 students. She was involved in strategic planning and development of the Science Department at Central TAFE during which time the Department experienced unprecedented growth.

Linda with co-directors Simon and John has formed a successful Registered Training Organisation, LabTech Training Pty Ltd, whose sole focus is the delivery of the suite of PML04 qualifications to the laboratory operations industry sector.

John Cattermoul
CSci, CChem, MRSC, PostGradCertEd (London University)
Cert IV AWT

John Cattermoul

John trained as an industrial chemist in the UK working in mineral assay and radiochemical laboratories for five years. Part-time study through the Royal Society of Chemistry led to a degree in chemistry with employment in a range of related fields including scientific patent editing and carbohydrate research. For the past 30 years John has worked in scientific education and training as a teacher, trainer and manager.

Since emigrating with his family from the UK in 1991, John has worked full time in the VET sector training laboratory technicians for work in the process manufacturing industry. His most recent roles with Central TAFE were as Science Coordinator and Advanced Skills Lecturer (ASL2) in Science. Notable achievements include John's involvement in the ongoing Western Geotechnics (WgeoG) project in which approximately 60 WgeoG staff were provided with access to Employment-Based Training leading to nationally recognised PML04 qualifications. Central to the project was the provision of a Recognition of Prior Learning pathway for experienced staff at the level of laboratory manager, four of whom gained the Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Operations PML60104. To supplement his work in the construction materials testing (CMT) sector, John has written and published several workplace training guides specifically for Trainees who work and train in CMT laboratories.

John has now moved into the private sector where his role as a director of LabTech Training Pty Ltd, a registered training organisation, enables him to utilise all the knowledge, skills and experience gained throughout his career.

Simon Gazia
BSc, AdvDipLabOps, MRACI
Cert IV AWT

Simon Gazia

Simon developed his practical laboratory experience working in WA's gold mining industry over a three-year period. He started as an entry-level field assistant and then progressed through sample preparation to a senior supervisory role within an analytical chemical laboratory. Simon has also gained substantial experience in environmental inorganic water analysis, working for three years in a Perth-based laboratory before being recruited into the Vocational Education and Training sector.  During this time Simon completed his Advanced Diploma of Laboratory Operations, and through part time study, his BSc in Applied and Analytical Chemistry graduating with the RACI Chemistry Student Prize for the most outstanding student.

Over the last four years Simon has been at the forefront of delivering qualifications to the laboratory operations industry through both Workplace Based Training programs and Recognition of Prior Learning. Of particular note has been Simon's integral involvement in developing and delivering the award-winning program at Western Geotechnics group, which has resulted in the delivery of the full range of PML04 qualifications to over 60 Construction Materials Testing staff through both traineeship and RPL pathways.

Simon's role as a director in setting up and growing LabTech Training with John and Linda has allowed him to put in to practice much of his recent study and industry experience, to ensure clients receive the high level of service they deserve.
