How is the accreditation provided?

LTT provides vocational education and training to a wide range of learners from unemployed entry-level trainees to existing laboratory workers. Accreditation is gained through the following means:

Skills Recognition

Experienced employees can achieve a whole or part qualification through Skills Recognition. The candidate provides evidence of skills and knowledge for each Unit of Competency in the qualification.

Skills Recognition is an assessment or evaluation of the skills and knowledge you have in your technical occupation. This includes formal and informal training, work experience and general life experience. It is possible to achieve a whole qualification via an assessment-only pathway.

Traineeships

A whole qualification can be achieved through a traineeship programme. To be eligible for a Traineeship programme, the candidate must fulfill certain criteria, including age, length of current employment and previous qualifications. A tailored training programme is devised for each trainee.

Combination Training and Skills Recognition

Employees who are not eligible for a traineeship can achieve a whole or part qualification using a combination of skills recognition and further training.

How is the training delivered?

The training will be totally on-the-job, with the candidate’s day-to-day work used as the basis for skills development. The knowledge component, which is addressed using flexible self-paced resources, will require some off-the-job reading and training.

What is the assessment process?

The assessment process requires LTT to collect adequate evidence that is valid, reliable, authentic, current and sufficient and then make judgments against expected competency and workplace standards. Assessment will often involve a practical demonstration, written or oral test and a report from the supervisor. It may also involve samples of work, letters of validation from employers, and internal or external third party reports.
