Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)

Do you want to develop your career in the building and construction industry? The Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) is designed to help you qualify for your Builder's Registration and become a manager in the building industry.

In this course, you will gain the managerial skills and knowledge required to plan and coordinate residential and commercial construction projects from inception to delivery. This nationally recognised qualification provides the minimum standards required by the Western Australian Department of Commerce to become a Registered Builder in WA. Our industry-experienced trainers will also assist you with your application to the Builders Registration Board of WA.

The Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) focuses on leadership and business management skills within the context of building and construction projects. This includes key mediation and critical analysis techniques. You will learn to manage the risks associated with residential and commercial projects, and gain a wide variety of skills that will allow you to supervise, manage and conduct quality assurance within the low to medium rise construction field. The course will also provide you with an in-depth insight into the engineering principles for residential and commercial construction, as well as an understanding of contract law, legislation and the latest building codes and standards.

Builder's Registration

To apply for registration as a building practitioner you must have particular experience and qualifications, and demonstrate to the Building Services Board that you are fit to be registered.

The requirements include:

  • Completion of the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building), along with additional units including: CPCCBC4014A Prepare simple building sketches and drawings; and CPCCOHS1001A Work safety in the construction industry (WA White Card).
  • You must have at least 5-7 years of experience in carrying out or supervising building work
  • Completion of relevant forms and registration fees

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however we do recommend at least 5 years of experience within the building and construction industry as this is a minimum requirement to apply for the Builder’s Registration.

Pre-Training Review

As part of the enrolment process, LTT will conduct a pre-training review to capture your current competencies including language, literacy and numeracy.

This ensures that you are making an informed decision about the suitability and relevance of the course you are planning on undertaking.

This process also aids in identifying any support service that may be required.

Assessment Methods

Assessment will include questions to confirm underpinning knowledge as well as a combination of practical assessment tasks, observation of performance, case studies, scenarios and workplace projects.
