Sarah Cole

Project Administrator at Solution 4 Building
LTT Program: CPC40208 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Contract Administration)

Sarah’s role

As a Project Administrator at Solution 4 Building, I take care of the administrative side of each construction project. This involves overseeing the building permits, creating purchase orders, liaising with contractors, managing project drawings and specifications, and attending and chairing site meetings.

I wanted to enhance my skill set and gain a formal qualification in contract administration, so I enrolled in the Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Contract Administration) at LTT. I am completing the course as part of a traineeship which allows me to study on-the-job and gain skills that are directly related to my job.

The benefits of on-the-job training

My traineeship has helped me in many ways. In particular, it has assisted me with looking at projects in more detail. With a strong background in commercial construction, my trainer has provided me with the guidance and support to meet new challenges in my role. I use the training material at work when I’m not sure of what to do and my trainer is also available if I have any work related questions.

The rewards of working in construction

A career in the commercial construction industry allows you to work across various sectors and face new challenges every day. No two projects are ever the same – each project gives the opportunity to build new relationships with different contractors and architects. I have worked on projects that range from school buildings and recreation centres, right through to carpark upgrades. It’s a really rewarding feeling being part of the construction process from the beginning and seeing the final results of our projects.

Why LTT?

I recommend LTT’s courses to anyone working full time who wants to undertake further study but also maintain a healthy work life balance. The course has allowed me to integrate study in my day-to-day working life so I can juggle 3 kids outside of work!

The structure of the course is fantastic. There isn’t anything else like this course in WA which allows you to study face-to-face in the workplace. I also prefer being assessed on actual workplace skills as opposed to sitting formal exams, especially since formal education is new to me. Fortunately my trainer has had full confidence in my abilities from the get go, assuring me that we will do whatever it takes to get through the course. I am very excited to soon become a qualified contract administrator!

Nicole Adamos

Nicole started a degree in Medical Science at university, but discovered that the course contained too much theory and not enough practical work. Nicole set her sights on an alternative career pathway, and attended one of LTT’s information sessions to see what other options she had. By visiting LTT’s classrooms at the information session, Nicole was able to see how pathology works in practice, and soon after she enrolled in a Certificate III in Pathology.
